End of the beginning

Present – Bright sunny morning

Cold wind slowly blows through the curtain waking me up. I lay awake staring at the ceiling, trying to follow the rotating blades of the fan. Minutes later I sit up with my legs on the floor, arms resting on my thighs and fingers through my hair. I hear the clock ticking and the slow breeze coming through the window. The Memories come flooding back.

Past – Bright sunny morning

A soft music wakes me up and I feel a soft peck on my neck. I sit up and she runs her fingers through my hair, I kiss her back on the forehead and she gives me her radiant smile. I pull her into me and put my arm around her and we both look through the window at the lovely green trees swaying softly.

Present

I walk towards the closet and dress up.

I head into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee, a quick sandwich and sit on a chair at the kitchen table. I sip my coffee and eat the sandwich while staring blankly at the wall. Finishing it, I place the mug and the plate in the sink. I pick up the keys and a pack of cigarettes from the table. I light one up and putting on the jacket, head out of my apartment locking the door behind.

Strangely enough, I still hear the clock ticking in my head. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. I can’t seem to remove it from my head.

Finishing my cigarette, I click the elevator button. I step inside and head down and then out through the main door. I take a left and walk on the street. Empty. I continue my walk and stop when I see the door of a familiar bar. I step in.

I still hear the clock ticking and same windy sound here inside the bar as well. I lean onto the bar counter, I gulp down a few shots. Then the Memories come flooding back, there’s no stopping them.

Past

It’s a Happy Hour at the Bar, and they are playing some beautiful light music. I see her standing at the bar counter holding a cigarette in her hand and searching for a lighter. I walk next to her with a cigarette of my own and offer my lighter to her. We order our drinks and sit across the table, I take her hands in mine and we both stare into each other’s eyes, and listen to the lovely songs for hours.

Present – repeat – Day 2

I lay awake staring at the ceiling, trying to follow the rotating blades of the fan. Minutes later I sit up with my legs on the floor, arms resting on my thighs and fingers through my hair. I hear the clock ticking TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. The Memories come flooding back.

Past – 6 months of our life

10PM.

She is warmly wrapped inside the blanket and with her glasses on, reads her book in peace while I sit next to her with my glasses on, working on the laptop.

Present – repeat – Day 2

I walk towards the closet and dress up.

I head into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee, skipping the breakfast I gulp down my coffee. Finishing it, I place the mug in the sink. I head toward the table pick up the keys and leave my pack of cigarettes on the table. I leave the jacket and let it hang onto the holder. I head out of my apartment locking the door behind.

Strangely enough I DON’T hear the clock ticking in my head. I click the elevator button.

I take a RIGHT today and walk on the street. Empty. I continue my walk and walk into a park. Dead trees all around with no green leaves, I stop walking when I see the familiar park bench. I sit down. Clock ticking is back inside my head. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. The Memories come flooding back, there’s no stopping them again!

Past – An Evening to remember

The lovely crimson sun was slowing setting down, leaving behind the magical golden yellow colors behind.  Beautiful green trees all around with birds chirping signaling the sun going down, We both sit next to each other on the park bench with her head resting on my shoulders and we both take in the surreal view and etch the moment to our memories. It was the nearest thing to heaven. She was with me. here, next to me!

Present – repeat – day 3

I lay awake staring at the ceiling, trying to follow the rotating blades of the fan. I hear the clock ticking TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. The Memories come flooding back.

Past – Love

10PM.

She gets up from the bed, picks her dress from the floor, sliding them on turns around and looks. I sit up to pick up my laptop, giving her a smile and return back to the pale white screen and start working

Present – repeat – day 3

I walk towards the closet and dress up.

I head into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee and a sandwich. I gulp down my coffee and sandwich. Finishing it, I place the mug and plate in the sink. I head toward the table pick up the keys and leave my pack of cigarettes on the table. I leave the jacket and let it hang onto the holder. I head out of my apartment locking the door behind. I click the elevator button.

I take a LEFT today and walk past the bar. I continue my walk and cross the bridge. I stop when I see the familiar theater. I step in and take the seat. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. The Memories come flooding back, again!

Past – Love

Dim lit theater, empty seats. We see the actors dancing to the lovely music. He holds her hand and by the waist, and they waltz around the room. The actor takes the actress in his arms, kisses her and then carries her off in his arms. We kiss in the dark. I hear her giggling sound, which takes my breath away.

Present – breakup

I wake up and roll off the bed. I hear a loud thumping sound inside my head. I light up a cigarette and take a big puff in, walking into the kitchen I see nothing but darkness around. I take another big drag. I head into the living room. I see a guy sitting on the couch with his arms on the thighs and his hands behind, holding his head. He looks up and stares at me. He looks exactly like me. Another version of me. I walk out through my apartment door. I see the elevator opened and she is inside with a packed briefcase in her hand. I click the elevator button. Wait. Don’t Go. Wait.

TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.

I fall deep down unaware of my state.

I’m back on the street, clueless which way to take?

Left or Right?

Left : I take a few steps towards the left. I see her. The Past. The Clock is ticking, alarm is ringing. Memories. I stop walking. The ringing stops. She is gone.

Right : I return back to the door, I take a few steps towards right. The Present. There is no clock, no alarm, no music, empty streets. There is no her!

I stop, I turn back. I run towards the door, run past it. Chasing her. All the memories blaze past me.

The Bar. Park.Theather. our place together.

I’m trying to hold on to her. I keep running and then jump off the bridge!

TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK!

INSTINCTS

There comes a moment in everyone’s life which define who you really are! That decision you take in a split second .. Either you pick the fight or walk away from it .. Does such a decision define who you really are?

I didn’t Want to fight, I wanted to survive! Live to fight another day?

10 pm. A Wednesday night. I was on my way back from office. Walking from the bus stop enjoying the Cool breeze. Just then, a bike stopped in front of me couple of feet ahead. A guy got down, he marched closer to me and then out of nowhere slapped me and pushed me back. It wasn’t a tight slap, a low intensity just rubbing my cheeks. One look at him told me he was high either drunk or on drugs and was out of his normal senses.

Thick jacket. Skull cap. Tall. Skinny. Fair.
I thought I could take this guy on. but it all changed when he stepped back, his right hand went into his pocket. A thousand thoughts popped in my mind.
OH! is it a GUN? can’t be. This can’t be happening to me. OH Damn! that’s definitely a knife. Compact and easy on the pocket KNIFE. He is gonna stab me now .. He wasn’t alone, two more guys right behind him on a bike. I try reasoning with him asking him questions.
“Wait! who are you? do you know me?”
No answers from him but just curses hurled back.
“Don’t try to run.. stay silent.. don’t try to run..”
He takes one step forward and I take two steps back, back..trying to think of something. Nothing. There’s nothing on my mind. What do I do? Fight or walk away and survive. He jumps forward and grabs my neck. I wiggle out from his grip and fall back down hitting the road hard. Scrapping my elbows and leg. My Gold chain drops to the ground from my neck. His eyes follow the chain. I kick him. Kick him hard near the stomach. He stepped back from the blow. His eyes now searching for the chain.

I search for it too. My eyes trying to find the chain. Trying. Found it, a bit far off my right hand. I pushed myself up and went right to the chain, picked and stuffed into my jeans. He stares at me, heavy breathing, eyes widen. My thoughts run wild again. OK dude, it’s time to get stabbed. He’s snapped. He now rolls his tongue out and was marching towards me. Time to fight!

This was not in any remote lonely isolated place. This was on a busy street at 10 pm. Independent houses all around. I glanced at the houses to check if anyone is looking at all this. Eye witness in case of something goes wrong. A lady on 1st floor staring at us. Just then someone shouted. “I’ll call the police if you don’t leave now”.

He stopped in his tracks when he heard that, voice was firm and threatening. He looked around, scanning all the houses and slowly walked back. Still staring at me, hurling abuses. He got into the bike quickly, three guys stormed away into the darkness.

I Survived. For now. How safe are we?

Destination Wayanad !

3 days to go .. so buckle up, prepare yourself ..  Just packing up bags won’t do !

Guys we need to learn Malayalam, and I know learning Malayalam in 3 days is a tough task but we can’t always depend on Syril and Siddharth’s Malayalam speaking powers and trusting these guys is HIGHLY DANGEROUS !!

Why?

Let me tell you a short story which happened in college:

One fine Monday afternoon, I was sitting like a sweet innocent boy and was playing snake on my fone, Sidda suddenly had a brilliant idea of bunking KR‘s class. I said “Hell no dude .. It’s freakin KR man .. NOOO” .. but he convinced me to bunk and we both left the class before KR came in. But DAMN .. KR saw us leaving the class and caught us .. The way KR looked at me I thought I was going to DIE! Thank god he didn’t murder me but he looked at sidda in a more Dumbledore way!! (If you know what I mean! :P) some people won’t get this one so check this Link

Moral of the short story: Never listen to SIDDA ! Never !

We have no other option – We have to learn Malayalam.

I have split them into scenarios, which can help us understand the language better, so here it goes…

Scenario #1:

You get down at wayanad and meet a few people, first thing to do when you meet a new person is to say “Hi” or you can just say “namaskaaram” (in a formal style)

PS: Just say “Hiii” in Raka’s style ! Trust me it works brilliantly !

Scenario #2:

You have to pee and it’s really urgent, and you have to ask them “where the rest room is?” They might point to a bush though !! 😛

Let’s face it! This sentence is a real life saver !!

English: “Where is the bathroom ??”

Malayalam: “Bathroom evide ah?”

PS: And then you can ahhhhhhh in the bathroom !!!!

Scenario #3:

We are not just going there to set up a camp fire and do tribal dance around it (Hmm may be ..) but we’ll also be traveling into thick forest and there is a slight possibility of spotting elephants. They might get hyper looking at you and might even chase you !! So what should we do when that happens, run for your life and while running SCREAM so that other Keralites might come and help!!

You have to scream, “help help elephant is chasing us !!!” but how will you say this in Malayalam, check this out –

English: ” Help .. Help .. Elephant .. Elephant !”

Malayalam: “Rakshikoo .. Rakshikoo .. Aana .. Aanaaaaaaaaa !”

PS: Don’t forget to stop yelling after you have escaped from its sight .. They have long ears and might hear you and hunt you down !

Scenario #4:

You see a beautiful girl and you are head over heels in love with the girl, can’t blame you, Kerala chicks are cute (Asin, Nayanthara are Keralites !)

You can walk up to the girl and say “I love you” in a boring normal English.

Saying it in an unknown language and in a different accent is awesome. I love you in Malayalam is “Njan ninne premikkunnu” and add this “Namukku oru cinemekku pokaamo?” (Which means “can we go for a movie?”) If the girl says “Maari Pooku .. Njan ninne verukkunnu” that just means “Get lost, I hate you” .

So get back to the bus we have more places to cover !!!!!!!!

Scenario #5:

We stop by and are searching for a hotel to have lunch ? We meet a few localities and have to ask them for hotel.

English: “I am hungry, where is the hotel ?”

Malayalam: “Enikku vishakunnu, Engene enikku hotlil ettham?”

PS: If they say eh??? Go get sidda or syril to continue the conversation !!

Scenario #6:

You are standing alone in a corner and all of us are busy taking photos. Suddenly a guy grabs your bag and is running away. You have to yell “Stop .. Stop !!!!!!”

English: “Stop! Stop ! Thief ! Thief ! Police !”

Malayalam: “Nirthoooo ! Nirthoooo ! Kallan ! Kallan ! Police !” (Police is still police here)

PS: Run behind him and get your bag, we will still be taking photos so it might be difficult to help!!

Scenario #7:

You need to Pee and run to a nearby bush (Old Habits Die Hard !)

While spraying the bushes, someone from behind tries to (you know) feel you ! You have to scream !!!!!! How ???

English: “Don’t touch me ! Help! Help !”

Malayalam: “Enne thodaruthu ! Rakshikoo ! Rakshikoo !”

English: “Leave me Alone! Help!”

Malayalam: “Enne veruthe vidoo ! Rakshikoo !!”

PS: well screaming and shouting depends – if you are starting to like it then you can allow him to continue ..

More stuff later !!

Peace,
Prashanth. Mac

Last day syndrome

A quick question from one of my colleagues, “How does it feel?? it’s your last day ??”

I said, “it feels different, weird, i have mixed emotions, well actually its bitter sweet !!!”

It was my last day at work. It’s was time to say goodbye. But I really don’t want to do that. I know I should say “see you again” but I hate making promises I may not be able to keep. a lot of people said “keep in touch” but im really bad at keeping in touch with people !!

Goodbyes will always hurt, it hurts more when you love the people and the place .. I made some good friends here, but the good things never last long! I love my Co-workers, they’re Awesome .. absolutely sweet. I’ll be able to talk to them on IM and through email, but it’s just not the same as hitting the mute button during a frustrating call and making fun of the clients with my friends. (Lol .. done that a zillion times!!!) The fun I have had with my friends at work are definitely what I will miss the most. But, it’s time to move on, and that’s just how this whole thing goes. Like I said, it’s a bittersweet feeling.

Lots of things hit me the last day, i just realized that I had sent my last business email and will no longer have to read business/pricing mails. i just realized that I can never chat on company’s IM (Sametime) which is awesome by the way !! My last Movie download had sizzling speed — everything felt strange .. somewhere down the corner i wanted to stay back !!!

The office sent me off with a cake and well wishes. They even sang “A Happy LAST-DAY to you ” song and packed me away. I am now officially a part of the world on the unemployed !!

There are many things I’m going to miss about the office, it was truly a colorful place .. check the pics, you’ll def agree.

Lots of wonderful memories  & these pics are some of my favorites :

1) My first day @ office – there was independence day celebration, I went there to sign some papers and the floor was soo colorful.

It was truly, A wonderful journey !!!!!!!!!!

    Prashanth.p@in.ibm.com

    MY ex-official email address:- Prashanth.p@in.ibm.com ( not any more .. DAMN I miss that too !! )

    Reality check !!

i am amazed at the number of vehicles that do not have headlights or taillights. i estimate that less than 25 % of the vehicles have all their lights in functional order.. nobody seems too insterested in enforcing the laws that require vehicles to have lights .. you can happily drive around the city for any length of time during the night with ABSOLUTELY no lights .. i have seen public buses, taxis and rickshaws that do not have a single light plying in the dark .. not a SOUL will complain .. nobody even seems to notice these vehicles.. but i invite you to drive your vehicles with your lights ON during the day .. every second person on the street will remind you that your lights are ON … ” excuse me sir, your lights are ON.” *that includes “the famous hand-signal” *

let us stop and think for a DAMN second .. which is the bigger OFFENCE here ???

    My Bucket List !

I’m pretty sure everyone has seen the movie ” BUCKET LIST “ ( the one with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson .. remember .. awesome movie right ??)

Bucket List means “A list of things to do before you die.”

Hmmm – Anyone can make a Bucket List anytime– you don’t have to be at the end of your life to create one, well this is my list of things to do before i kick the bucket.

Create your list here and share it with me.

    Deepika is cheering RCB 🙂

    Nighty Night !

im gonna quit my job soon .. I’ve had enough of working in night , I want to live a standard life of working all day and sleeping through the night. well to be honest its pretty annoying to sleep in the day, it is difficult to adjust and my parents are supportive from the very start. but after losing 3 kilo’s in two months they are beginning to worry about me, my mom started blaming the night shift. i told her its got nothing to do with working in the night.

she has already told everyone in our area about working in the night., and every uncle and aunty keep asking me to take care of my health. i reach home by 7 am and its the perfect time for all the oldish and greyish people of my area to come back from their morning walk. everyday i pray that i don’t bump into them.( i have asked a billion times to my cab driver to drop me right in front of my gate, but he doesn’t do that .. i have to walk my way home, may be i shud bribe him a little for the drop til my place!!!?) it’s doesn’t stop there .. i just came down after my 6 hr peaceful nap and suddenly i heard a voice which said, “okay so ur the one who works in night ?? take care of ur health kano, working in night is really difficult ??”

Whoa where did that come from? i scan for people ..g8 my mom’s colleagues are home !! nice !! hello aunty !! (smiles or trying to smile)“u work in which company?” I work for IBM, near kormangala ! “thats a good company, whats ur job like ?” well i’m a remote support specialist aunty,“sounds cool” (ya remote support specialist does sound complicated and cool :P.)

i’m a VTU engineering student. if there is anything i learn’t under VTU, it’s 100 ways to twist the words around so that it sounds complicated, confusing and cool :P)

“night shift are difficult pa? take care?” and she went back to discuss it with my mom.

hmm mayyyyy be … i am working real hard !! may be !! when i think about it, i don’t remember working hard though. all i remember doing in office is watch movies, play games, tweeeeet, poke a few on facebook. LOL – I even take a nap for 3 hrs everyday in office, well these are some of the added advantage when ur manager is not around. he leaves @ 3 in the morning. and rite after that the whole office is mine(*evil grin*). i do have a personal semi sleeper class chair, which i can push back entirely and take nap, i sleep more peacefully in office compared to my home. even watching movies is much better in office than at home, u can watch movies with ur colleagues and its a lot better than watching it alone at home. so i’ve made my own list of best/worst movies @ office, here it goes.

the best horror movie in office goes to :- Paranormal activity
the best action movie in office goes to :-The Hurt locker
the best Hindi movie in office goes to :- Wake up sid
the best Tamil movie in office:- Goa

the worst movie in office :- Pyaar Impossible
the worst action movie in office:-Armored

WTF thing about working in my company:- NO holidays for Indian festivals.

I was so very proud of the cultural diversity in India only because i used to get holidays for all festival. now no holiday for Diwali, not even for Republic day, what’s happening to india ?? when i quit this place, which i will very soon. Im gonna join an Indian company which gives holiday for all the festivals, my first question to HR is “ do we have to work on govt holidays too ???”

Or im gonna start a brand new company .. if i start a company what am i gonna name it. here are a few names. i hope im not in trouble for using popular companies name.

Prashtree, Praspro, Prashosys, Prata consultancy services and my personal favourite since i love apple .. i can very well name my company as Prapple !! Prapple sounds cool !! isn’t it ??

    Kubuntu – Ubuntu with a K !!

I  made a transition from Ubuntu to Kubuntu and trust me the extra “K” made a huge difference. its was everything i expected it to be .. 6hrs of download and I’m ready to enter the world of Kubuntu.

Why am I trying out Kubuntu ?? well, I have never been in a KDE environment b4. Enuf of Gnome I wanted to try out KDE.

Kubuntu is different, Kubuntu is all flashy .. Kubuntu has simple effects and smooth transition. The look and feel is way different from Ubuntu. And 9.04 have a lot of improvements.

I’ve always been huge fan of Ubuntu, I was using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS(Long-term-support) nick named Hardy Heron, but I call it kokare.

    2450346971_ef9cc2c0af

I also have a win XP OS and “windows XP +SP2” is pretty good OS. If you have a good anti virus running .. Then the world is a better place for you. If u have a poor Anti Virus then ur doomed. Win XP+SP2 is the most stable OS from Microsoft guys, but I’ll always love windows 98. i have windows for back up !!!

I loaded my CD, rebooted and said, “bring on the effects baby”, hmmm the installations similar to Ubuntu popped up. No trouble here .. Installation steps were same !!

Alright, here it comes, the loading menu was really cool, the icons were slowly loaded and it glowed one after the other .. My desktop was absolutely blue, I checked the theme .. it was oxygen !

    jaunty

I was walking into a dark zone .. all alone .. I could barely see .. I went door to door knocking (clicking from one application to another) .. everything had a new name .. new icons .. Firefox was konqueror now, pidgin was kopete, Kontact, kalander, ktorrent… every app’s name started with K”

And I still had 66 software updates, 55 bug fixes .. The net was automatically detected .. no surprises there !!!

Media player was weird here and I didn’t like konqueror or kopete as well so I went to snaptic manager (wait its Kpackage kit here) and installed VLC, Pidgin and Opera. Opera and me are like soul-mates, we met in the year 2005 and rest is history !! I quickly dismissed konqueror and downloaded opera. I love opera more than any other browser in this whole wide world. I like her mouse gestures a lot. She understands my every move, she is just perfect !! And since every app’s name starts with K .. from now on its Kopera, Kidgin and KLC !!!!!!

Damn there was no GIMP here and no games guys, not even mahjong . That’s a disappointment coz every Linux flavor has games, the old version of RED HAT has cooler games !!!!!!!!

Next I plugged in my Usb and dolphin file manager popped up. No mounting issues here !!!! And there are few of my friends who use Linux only to remove virus from their pen drives .. So guys try
Kubuntu you can remove virus here as well ( it’s the only way to force them use Linux !!!)

You were rite hemanth, this OS is built for people like me. My desktop without any customization.

    snapshot21

Everything is new in here .. I need more time to adjust N customize .. but so far

    “Kubuntu is kool!”

    Ethnic day !!

I hate to say it .. But the reality is we are at the end of our college days (Damn !!)

However we still have moments and events like these to enjoy ourselves, it’s been almost 4 years and we have all got to know each other quite well and when that happens “College becomes a special place, where you can have fun and enjoy each other’s company.”

The only thing we did the whole day was click photos, I don’t remember the classes being taken and by some strange effect the teachers were not interested in taking classes. Lucky us !!

Lets the pics roll, Click on the photo below for full screen effect ;)!!
